There are a few bright spots in this endless at-home time we’ve been getting at Kitchen 511. The family gathers around the dinner table every single evening (and sometimes at lunch, as well), we’re cooking more than ever (which is a plus in our books), we play cards or a bevy of board games into the wee hours of each morning, and we’re crossing countless house projects off an enormous to-do list…with helping hands, no less. Touching up my cabinets was one such project that was haunting me every single time I’d walk into my kitchen (like 50 times a day these days). So this morning, with my newfound procastrinate-no-longer approach, I grabbed the Benjamin Moore Chalkboard paint in the custom color made to match my matte Slate Mud Australia mugs and started covering up the many chipped corners and spots that had been staring me in the face for well over 6 months. (And I chose chalkboard paint not because I wanted people scribbling all over my cabinets but because I wanted to achieve that same flat effect of my favorite mugs.) I got started before most of the house was awake so that the kitchen would be quiet and within 2 hours my cabinets took on a nearly new-looking glow. And that beautiful Sub-Zero stainless steel fridge you see on the left…it was a Craig’s List steal at less than a thousand bucks (vs. $10,000 new!).
